View of the Marsh — Bamboo Mountain Turquoise & Sterling Silver Cuff

There is a small barrier island off the coast of North Carolina that shaped everything. I lived there summers as a graduate student — reachable only by water, 45-minutes between the island and mainland. Restock trips consumed the day. I didn't restock very often.

Days began before the heat did. I was out early, hunting for creatures that preferred to stay hidden — checking pit traps for snakes, wading the shallows, crawling through tough island vegetation. At night I wrangled loggerhead sea turtles laboring up the beach, tagged them under million-starred skies and followed them back into the surf.

On the sound side lay the marsh — vast, tidal, alive in ways that took time to learn. What looked like a carpet of grass from a distance was, up close, a very loud world. A cacophony of birds. Jumping fish. Stingrays moving just beneath the surface like slow thoughts. And at night, the phosphorescence. I'd swim in black water and spit mouthfuls of sparkling blue-white light. Wave a hand and a thousand stars followed. It was the kind of magic that doesn't ask permission.

Those nights never left me. You're never just one thing. I was a young scientist. I was also someone who could be wrecked by a marsh at dusk. Or the weeping of a sea turtle laying a hundred eggs. 

This Bamboo Mountain turquoise — earthy, layered, unhurried — takes me straight back to those summers and that place. A customer saw a similar cuff I'd made and knew immediately. They didn't want something like it. They wanted this stone, this setting, made for them. I was thrilled. Now it's ready for its first life.

Set in sterling silver. Work-hardened cuff, 5.5" around with a 1" opening. Can be gently adjusted for fit.
