metolius-river
Metolius River

The Metolius doesn't begin with a single source. It starts as dozens of small springs seeping up through the volcanic earth, each one modest on its own — and then, almost all at once, they find each other and become something rushing and undeniable. Mount Jefferson rises above it all, framed by Ponderosa Pines. The water is clear and cold from the first inch.

I lived in Oregon for years and rafted that river more times than I can count. Got to know its bends, its moods, its particular shade of blue-green where the current runs fast over dark volcanic rock. The Cascades have a wildness to them that stays with you long after you leave.

When I first laid eyes on this Blackjack turquoise — mined and cabbed by one of the Ottesons outside Tonopah, Nevada — the Metolius came rushing back. That same brilliant blue-green, alive against a dark brown-black matrix. High desert stone, Pacific Northwest river. Somehow, they're the same color.

Picture cold water moving fast over dark stone. The sound of it before you even see it. The way the color shifts — deep and dark in the shadows, bright and alive where the sun hits. These earrings carry that feeling. Whether you've spent a lifetime near rivers or you've only ever imagined what that kind of wild might be, this is what it looks like.

One of a kind. Handmade. There's only one pair.

Blackjack turquoise, sourced from the Ottesons, Tonopah, Nevada.
